Visit the Museum
Great Explorations Children’s Museum, located next to historic Sunken Gardens on 4th Street North in St. Petersburg, is one of Florida’s top museums and one of America’s top museums for children. At Great Explorations, fun educational experiences make learning fun for visitors of all ages.

Visitor Play Policy: Every adult (18 & over) must be accompanied by a child, and every child (17 & younger) must be accompanied by an adult, except as noted for special programs.

10am-4:30pm, Monday-Saturday
Noon-4:30pm on Sunday.
Admission
Free for children under 2 years
$10 for ages 2 to 54 years
$9 for ages 55 and up.
Memberships are available.

Great Group Rates
Great Explorations Children's Museum offers Group Programs on weekdays and weekends. These programs are tied to the Florida Sunshine State Standards.
Group rate: $7 per person. This price includes museum admission and a 30-45 minute educational presentation (custom topics available). Group visits and field trips should be scheduled in advance. Please call 727-821-8992 x233 to plan your trip or to get more information on group options. Great Outreach Programs
Educational presentations are also offered as Outreach Programs. These custom programs are brought to your group location. Each presentation lasts approximately 45 minutes - 1 hour.
Outreach rates
One or Two Workshops in One Day - $199.
Same-day Additional Workshop Fee - $100.

OUR GREAT MISSION AND FAST FACTS

The mission of Great Explorations Children’s Museum is to stimulate learning through creativity, play, and exploration.

  • Great Explorations Children’s Museum is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization which was incorporated in November, 1986. One year later, the museum opened  thanks to community support and, in particular, the Junior League of St. Petersburg.
  • Drawing educational content from the arts, sciences, and humanities, Great Explorations programs and exhibits encourage creative thinking, problem-solving, and discovery. Exhibits invite the participant to touch and explore or role play. Program lessons are presented in a multidisciplinary context and interactive style.
  • The museum is 24,000 square feet with 18,000 square feet of exhibits that are continually upgraded and rotated.
  • Recent awards/recognition: Promising Practice / Universal Design for Learning through the Association of Children’s Museums in 2008; Best Practices in Access through the State of Florida Division of Cultural Affairs and VSA arts of Florida in 2008; and Tampa Bay Business Journal Nonprofit award in 2008.
  • Great Explorations toured up to 5 different exhibitions for more than 10 years to museums nationwide.
  • Ranked #1 place for kids in Tampa Bay by the Lila Guide, a national parenting resource.
  • Great Explorations is home to the Foster Great Futures initiative which includes the Early Explorations Preschool and VPK as well as the Camp Explorations, Youth Leadership, and AmeriCorps Great Explorations programs.
  • Foster Great Futures also enables thousands of underserved individuals and groups to receive free admission and/or outreach services and provides mentoring and volunteer opportunities for at-risk teens.
