For a quarter of a century, Great Explorationshas served the community as more than just an award-winning children’s museum. Fun, experiential learning through hands-on exhibits is just one aspect of multiple programs that include career shadowing and character development for young adults, assistance for foster care children, thematic camps, dynamic outreach programs for schools, parenting workshops, scholarships for families in need, and monthly programs both on site and through partnerships with organizations such as First Night, Taste of Pinellas, and the Heart Gallery.
To support these kinds of family-focused services, dedicated volunteers hold one major fund-raising event, Great Extravaganza, in November of each year. The evening includes cocktails, gourmet food, live and silent auctions, all on a beautiful sunset cruise with music, dancing, and fireworks finale. Event sponsors also enjoy an exclusive reception held in the weeks prior to the Extravaganza.
