Summer Adventure Programs
These aren’t your typical summer camps! At Great Explorations we believe that learning can be just as fun as playtime. In fact, children in our camps have a hard time noticing the difference. That’s because our skilled teaching staff knows how to use fun and play to teach. Through hands on projects, exciting activities, and interesting themes, children explore the wonders of the world around them and learn how to be responsible stewards of our wondrous earth and each other. Summer Camp 2010 at Great Explorations
Great Explorations offers exciting summer learning opportunities for kids, grades k-6. Our kids-only classes offer experienced instructors that encourage independent learning and socialization through hands-on learning challenges & projects.
Campers can choose camp topics from 3 specially designed tracks that include Science, Art and Cultural Explorations.
Mix and match tracks throughout the summer to create your own customized learning adventure!

Simple Machines
Week 1, June 14-18

Learn how Leonardo da Vinci changed they way we think about gears. Build your own machines and race your creations while you learn about pulleys, levers and ramps.
3,2,1….Blastoff!
Week 2, June 21-25
Let your imagination soar! Launch your own stomp rocket, learn about boomerangs and make far flying airplane models.
Electric Boogaloo
Week 3, June 28-July 2
Learn the secrets behind electricity. Play with solar cells, turn potatoes into batteries, and get a charge out of the Van De Graaff generator!
Ooey Gooey Science
Week 4, July 5-9
See how far you can stretch some neon gooey gunk, erupt a volcano, paint with magic paint, and sink your toes into home made muck!
Color My World
Week 5, July 12-16
Explore how color affects how you feel and the science behind how we see color. Use scientific equipment like UV lights, optical sets and light boxes. Make your own colorful works of art using prisms, paints and all the colors you can imagine!
Lil Inventors
Week 6, July 19-23
Investigate the science behind your favorite classic toys such as yo-yos and playdough. Explore energy and motion with domino play and small car races as you discover Newton’s toy box of fun. Design and create your own new toy sensation!
One Fish, Two Fish
Week 7, July 26-30
….Red Fish, Blue Fish! Explore the exciting world that fish call home. Learn the secrets of raising fish and the science behind aquaculture. Make your own water environment that includes a special water friend!
Digging Dinos
Week 8, August 2-6
Play the role of a paleontologist as you dig for fossils and construct a dinosaur while learning amazing dino-mite fun facts!
Planet Pathways
Week 9, August 9-13
On planet Earth, every living thing is connected. Follow the pathways as you make a food web and create a biosphere. Investigate energy and the water cycle through experiments and take home projects.
Treasure Quest
Week 10, August 16-20
Hidden tombs and buried treasure await! Learn about famous treasures and the explorers who search for them – then participate in your own treasure hunt adventure.

Green Machines
Week 1, June 14-18
Tackle one of the greatest challenges today – creating earth friendly alternate energy. Explore solar and alternate energy sources and fuel cell technology. Use fuel cell technology to build a hydrogen powered remote control car!
Planes, Wings and Other Things
Week 2, June 21-25
Fly high with the physics of flight! Investigate Bernoulli’s principle as you build your own flying craft. Make kites, model planes, a stomp rocket and play with boomerangs!
Power House
Week 3, June 28-July 2
Integrate physical science and technology lessons with the adventure of building a home and living on a remote island. Harness the power of the sun and wind. Engage in experiments all about building and creating your own Power House!
Slimy Science
Week 4, July 5-9
It’s crazy chemistry fun! Make slime that jiggles, sticky ooze that’s a glue, a material that’s solid one minute, liquid the next and classic horror-movie slime.
Scope-It-Out
Week 5, July 12-16
Get an eyeful! Build a stethoscope, nephoscope, periscope, and aquascope. Conduct experiments to see the micro world of plants and insects in a whole new way. A kaleidoscope of hands-on fun opportunities awaits!
Build a Thrill
Week 6, July 19-23
Thrills, spills, and G-force hills! Discover the science behind theme parks. Investigate the physics of thrill rides. Create marble roller coasters, theme park swing rides, and carnival mirror optical illusions. Play midway games and try tasty carnival snacks!
Watery Worlds
Week 7, July 26-30
Visit the diversity of life found in different watery worlds: ponds, streams, wetlands, and oceans. Design your own watery world complete with aquatic life to take home!
Geology Rocks!
Week 8, August 2-6
Act as a real geologist. Uncover the secrets stored in rocks and geological formations, grow crystals, and erupt your own volcano!
Radical Rainforests
Week 9, August 9-13
Journey to the rainforest with video, animal and plant interactions. Gobble up tasty rainforest snacks while learning how living things survive in this ecosystem. Plant a mini-rainforest, examine rainforest insects and learn about the people who call the rainforest home.
Ancient Elements
Week 10, August 16-20
The four ancient elements – earth, water, air and fire – dominated science for two thousand years. Explore science principles represented by each of these elements. Investigate properties of water and soil, learn to track weather phenomena and see how fire can identify chemical components.

Have fun mixing up the art world! Use sand, string, paint and clay pieces to create your own masterpieces.
Sculpting Scarabs
Week 5, July 12-16
Learn the art of design and form in the natural world. Learn about marvelous insects like dragonflies and ladybugs and sculpture techniques to design you own insect models.
Kid’s Play: Fairy Tales
Week 6, July 19-23
School is out – Drama is in! Have fun learning the basics of theater as you recreate the best loved fairy tales. Create costumes, have fun with stage make-up, even present your play on stage!
Weaving Wonders
Week 7, July 26-30
Create many different kinds of fun woven art while learning about the traditions of each style. Weave your own take home dream catcher, basket and tapestry!
Eco-Art
Week 8, August 2-6
Let art inspire you as you shape new creations by learning to use natural elements as an art medium. Create fabulous sand art, potato porcupines and beautiful sun art.
Skateboard Graphics II
Week 9, August 9-13
More graphic design fun with an urban twist! Create even more designs for your line of skateboard art. Participation in the first Skateboard Graphics is not required.

Adventures in Time:
Native Florida
Week 3, June 28-July 2
Connect with the native people of Florida! Guest presenters share the art and history of Native Americans and hands-on projects that bring Florida’s true natives to life!
Global Groove
Week 4, July 5-9
Cultures like the Polynesians use music and dance to record their history. Make your own musical instruments and move to the beat of a different drum as you learn the stories and music of these exciting cultures.
Adventures in Time: Castles and Kings
Week 5, July 12-16
Investigate King Arthur and Camelot as you build castles and working catapults. Learn about countries that still have kings and queens. This camp will make you feel like royalty!
Pretend Passport: Africa
Week 6, July 19-23
Explore Africa! Take a Serengeti safari and journey through the Congo. Guest speakers, crafts, music and authentic African food make this a camp to remember!
Kid’s Games of the World
Week 7, July 26-30
Children worldwide love to play games! Discover what games kids from diverse cultures play. Learn about their favorite toys and make some of your own!
Build a Friend
Week 8, August 2-6
Who would your perfect friend be? How would they act? Take a closer look at what makes a friend special and learn how to be a better friend to others. Build your own special plush friend to take home.
Pretend Passport: Australia
Week 9, August 9-13
Explore the land down under and learn about Aborigine culture. See a real didgeridoo, throw boomerangs and learn about koalas. A week of exciting projects and a culinary feast of Australian favorites is waiting in the outback.
Myths and Legends
Week 10, August 16-20
Cultures have shared stories and myths around the world. Learn stories while making fun crafts, foods and even share in the story telling!
General Camp Info:
What to Bring
Students should dress comfortably for outdoor activities and air conditioned indoor spaces and wear closed-toed shoes. Also, each day, students should bring two snacks, a lunch and drinks. Students meet in our Great Explorations Lobby.
Minimum/ Maximum Enrollment
Minimum enrollment for these programs is six children. Maximum enrollment for these programs is 15 children.

All registrations must be accompanied by check or credit card payment in full. Payment plan available for multiple week registrations.

Walk-in Registrations can be taken during the hours of 9:00am to 4:30pm Monday through Friday. Please bring completed registration and payment to Great Exploration’s Gift Shop.
Class sizes are limited and enrollment is based on a first-come, first-serve basis only.
We will accept registrations up to five working days before classes for those that have not reached their enrollment capacity.
Great Explorations reserves the right to combine like age levels to meet minimum attendance requirements.
Great Explorations reserves the right to cancel any program if the minimum enrollment is not reached.
To ensure that your enrollment is processed quickly and accurately, please provide all of the information requested on the registration form.
Early enrollment is encouraged, as most camps and programs are limited.
For camps that reach their maximum capacity, a waiting list will be taken.
Registration confirmation will be sent by mail or fax once registration is processed. You must have a confirmation to be enrolled in our Summer Exploration Camps. Please bring your confirmation to sign-in on the first day of camp.
Refunds
A full refund will be reissued for cancellations requested one week (seven days) prior to the program date. A fee of half the program costs will be charged for cancellations less than one week before the program date. There will be no refunds after a class begins. Courses cancelled by Great Explorations due to low enrollment or hazardous weather conditions will be fully refunded automatically.
Promotional Photography
From time to time, Great Explorations takes photographs of course participants during classes and camps. These photos are used for many purposes, including advertising and promotional materials. Should you have any objections to Great Explorations taking or using photos of you or your children, please notify the education Department at Great Explorations before your course begins.

Easy Come, Easy Go Field Trips
With our Easy Come, Easy Go Field Trip program we make it easy to experience all the excitement and fun we have to offer!

Field Trip includes:
• 18,000 square feet of interactive exhibits
• Show on the stage (optional-see pricing section below)

PLUS Enjoy Picnic Lunch and Playground at nearby Crescent Lake Park!
Easy Go……
Can’t come to us? Don’t worry! We make it EASY to bring the FUN and PLAY to you!
Outreach Program includes:
• Many programs for grades K-5 that cover a wide variety of topics
• Dynamic, entertaining and FUN shows with audience participation
• Up to one hour of laughter and learning
Requirements:
• Minimum of 15 students
• 1 chaperone per 8 students, admitted free
• Completed and signed field trip reservation form (groups will not be placed on the calendar without a reservation form)
Pricing:
Per-child pricing is $5 for Museum time only, or $7 for Museum time and an educational workshop. Additional chaperones (beyond the 1:8 ratio) are admitted at the field trip rate.
